2026 Courses

Calling all hempcrete and plastering enthusiasts!

Following the success of our previous hemp construction courses, we now have our course dates for 2026. And this year, we’re offering an additional new course!

HempCentral is pleased to announce our continued partnership with the Australian Hemp Masonry Company to offer our 2026 Hempcrete Construction Course. In addition, we are also offering a Plastering Course in Partnership with Hiberna Modular and Solid Earth.

This is a great opportunity to learn more about building with hempcrete – a natural, sustainable material with high thermal insulation, excellent breathability, fire resistance, and superior acoustic performance. Whether you’re a builder, designer, or simply interested in sustainable building, this course could be for you.

If you’d like to know more, or sign up please email us at info@hempcentral.earth or scroll down to the bottom of this page to complete our form below by clicking ‘Register Your Interest’. We’ll respond to your submission with details and costs.

Spaces will be limited, so let us know if you’re keen!

Where to start:
Theory Workshop

The first component of the course is our hemp construction theory workshop, delivered over 2 x 3hr evening Zoom sessions by Klara Marosszeky, founder of Australian Hemp Masonry. Klara is a certified workplace trainer and assessor.

The sessions cover the history and current state of hemp construction in Australia and New Zealand, its place within the Building Code, and its applications across new builds and retrofits. You'll learn about the material's performance characteristics, where hempcrete can and can't be used, design detailing, and practical skills including tools, formwork, mixing, installation, curing, finishes, and repairs — along with WH&S considerations throughout.

Following the training, you will receive a Certificate, a Certifier's Pack (including the reports and supporting information needed for hemp homes and commercial buildings to be approved by a Certifier or Surveyor), and other information to support you in your project.

Builders, Architects and Building Designers who complete the training are eligible for CPD points — please let us know if this is relevant to you.

Dates:
Tuesday 13th and Tuesday 20th October 7pm – 10pm

Fee:
$360 AUD pp (incl. GST) + booking fee.
Please book directly through the Australian Hemp Masonry Company website.

The theory course must completed before the practical component takes place.

About Our Hempcrete Practical Course

This is the practical component of the Hemp Construction Course. With the 2 x 3 hr zoom sessions covering the theory component, this hands-on workshop will complete your AHMC/HempCentral Limited training, giving you experience in mixing and installing hempcrete.

This is the only workshop of its type in New Zealand. We hosted our first course in October 2024 and our second successful course in 2025. We’ve worked with Ben Convery from the Australian Hemp Masonry Company to deliver these previous courses.

Ben, a qualified Workplace Trainer and Assessor, brings a wealth of experience, having led numerous Hemp Building Practical Workshops in Australia.

We use locally produced hemp hurd, and Geobind, the first 100% New Zealand made binder for hempcrete walling.

The workshop includes hands-on experience, both learning to mix the hurd and binder well and learning the techniques for using hempcrete, to ensure that the end result both looks good and provides optimal thermal and acoustic performance.

NEW for 2026: Plastering Course

For the first time, we are also offering a course on natural plasters.

Over two days, Verena Maeder of Solid Earth and Ben Eyres of Hiberna Modular will introduce natural clay and lime plasters from the ground up. They'll cover the theory, demonstrate the materials and techniques, and get you making your own samples — with plenty of time to pick the brains of two experienced practitioners.

No plastering experience needed.
